The Bharatiya Janata Party has filed a case in Nagpur against Sanjay Raut, a leader from the Shiv Sena party and a member of the Rajya Sabha, for making comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the reports, the Sanjay Raut FIR has been done by the BJP because Raut's remarks could cause problems between different communities and pose a direct threat to the Prime Minister's life.
During a public speech in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar, Raut allegedly compared Prime Minister Modi to Aurangzeb, a Mughal emperor. The BJP's Maharashtra unit stated that such comparisons are dangerous and amount to threatening the Prime Minister's safety.
The BJP has taken further steps by reaching out to the Election Commission and the Mumbai police, urging them to take action against Raut. They expressed concerns that his remarks could fuel tension between communities and disrupt the ongoing election process.
In their complaint to the Election Commission, the BJP emphasised the seriousness of Raut's remarks against PM Modi and called for measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Moreover, the BJP criticised Uddhav Thackeray, the head of Shiv Sena, for not reinforcing Sanjay Raut's remarks. They likened Raut's talk of ‘burying’ the Prime Minister to expressing support for Pakistan, implying it was unpatriotic.
Back in March, Prime Minister Modi responded to Raut's comparison to Aurangzeb by stating that he has faced criticism, both positive and negative, throughout his political career. He highlighted the upcoming election as a crucial moment for democracy. PM Modi supporters appreciate his resilience amidst criticism.
The ongoing Lok Sabha election in Maharashtra involves voting for 48 parliamentary seats across five phases. The fifth phase, covering certain constituencies, is scheduled for May 20th.
